The ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (ISA TRAQ) is a voluntary qualification program designed to train and assess candidates in a specialized field of arboriculture. When a professional earns the ISA TRAQ credential, they will be recognized by their peers and the public as a tree care professional who has specialized knowledge in tree risk assessment. To earn the qualification, eligible candidates must complete a training course, and pass both a comprehensive written assessment and a performance-based assessment.

Virtual TRAQ Renewal

The ISA TRAQ is a voluntary qualification program that is valid for 5 years, at which point you would take a renewal program to extend the qualification another 5 years. Please note: if five years have passed since your initial TRAQ certification and it is now expired, you will need to re-enroll in the full 3-day TRAQ certification program. This is the renewal program for those people who retain an active TRAQ certification.

2023 NJ Tree Climbing Competition

The NJ Chapter of the ISA is preparing to host our annual Tree Climbing Competition, which will once again be held at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ. The event will start on Friday, June 9 with Gear Check and Ascent starting at 12pm - 5pm. Saturday, June 10 will begin with a walk-through promptly at 7:30am. Please plan to arrive by 7:00am on Saturday: the competition events will begin no later than 8:30am. The male and female winners of the masters’ challenge event on June 10 will qualify for the International Tree Climbing Competition in Albuquerque, NM on August 11-13.

This year’s Work Day event will take place at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ. Branch Brook Park is distinguished by being the first county park to be opened for public use in the United States.

As a third generation arborist and LTE, Stephen will talk us through assessing the purpose and aesthetic of specific trees in the landscape. He will review common trees that are used over and over by landscape and tree companies, with suggestions for many unique varieties to consider.
