The Steering Committee convenes at least bi-annually to review the trajectory of board initiatives in order to adhere to our mission, vision, and values. Sub-committees include the Budget and Personnel Committees, which provide financial oversight and staffing guidance. The Steering Committee includes Todd Pearson (Chair), Bert Kuhn, Scott Tapp, Dave Wells, Hans Hanbicki, Tom Purtell, and Neil Hendrickson.

The Education Committee provides direction and oversight to educational offerings, most notably the annual Garden State Tree Conference. Developing the program for each conference, inviting leading industry professionals, and facilitating the program on-site are all responsibilities of this committee. The Education Committee includes Neil Hendrickson Ph.D. (Chair), Steve Chisholm Jr., Mark Ware, Bert Kuhn, Bob Wells, and Natalia Cebollero Bertran.

The Workday Committee oversees our annual workday fundraiser. This impressive and meaningful event draws industry professionals from all over the state of New Jersey and beyond to provide tree care on the first Saturday of December in a historic or state park. The Workday Committee includes Scott Tapp (Chair), Todd Pearson, Bert Kuhn, Ryan Moore, Jake Spooner, and Joshua Best.

The Climbing Events Committee oversees the development and execution of rigorous tree climbing competitions for our chapter.  These high quality, challenging events create opportunities for skill building and mentorship.  The chapter holds the NJ Tree Climbing Competition each year on the second Saturday in June.  The winner of this event goes on to represent NJ at the International Tree Climbing Championship.  We also created and host a team-based, inter-chapter challenge called the Duel on the Delaware.  At times, we even hold training events for novice competition climbers. The Climbing Events Committee includes Scott Tapp (Chair), Todd Pearson, Jake Spooner, Bert Kuhn, Hans Hanbicki, Ryan Moore, and Beau Norris.

The Outreach Committee facilitates the participation of our chapter in industry opportunities within New Jersey and neighboring states. The goal of this committee is to connect our chapter and members with affiliate organizations and the public, in accordance with the chapter’s mission “to advance the profession of arboriculture in NJ”. The Outreach Committee members include Joshua Best (Chair), Jake Spooner, Dave Wells, Bert Kuhn, Hans Hanbicki, Bob Wells, and Mark Ware.

The President’s Council is a vehicle for past presidents to always have a seat at board meetings.  It is an informal committee whose members are past chapter presidents.  The chapter board welcomes all past presidents to join monthly meetings.
